Derecktor Shipyard’s ‘Cakewalk’ put in an appearance at Fort Lauderdale...

Recent Launches

She wasn't in the show officially, but available for view between the Convention Center and Bahia Mar sites, just across from the Sails Marina. By volume she's the biggest yacht ever built in North America.

NOVEMBER 2010

Launched recently at Derecktor Shipyard’s Bridgeport, Connecticut facility, the 85.6m (281ft) steel/aluminium leviathan Cakewalk is the biggest yacht in terms of length to launch in North America since the 1930s and the biggest ever in terms of volume. She’s 2,998GT.
Her exterior was drawn by London-based Tim Heywood and her interior was the responsibility of American stylist Liz Dalton. The technical stuff was handled by Hugo van Wieringen of Dutch studio Azure Naval Architects with specialist engineering help of BMT Nigel Gee in the UK and and US company Gibbs and Cox.
She accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins, two personal staff in one cabin, and a crew of 24 in 16 cabins.
Pushed along by twin 16V4000 M71 MTUs producing 2,465kW (3,306hp) up to a maximu speed of around 17 knots, she has a range of some 5,000nm @ 15 knots.
Her tender inventory includes a limited edition Aquariva Centro, a Vikal custom limousine, and a customized Intrepid 350 Open.
Her American owners, who have had several other Cakewalks, will soon be taking her to the Caribbean. When they are not using her, she will be available for charter at something like US$1,000,000 a week.
