The Wider 42 is all she was billed to be and more; her world premiere was on April 14 in Porto Carlo Riva, Rapallo.

APRIL 2011

New Italian company Wider Yachts has shown in-water its first boat, the Fulvio de Simone-designed Wider 42.
Beyond 45-knot-plus stepped-hull performance, this day-cruiser delivers something very special, push-out cockpit extensions that double as stabilizers when at rest. The Wider 42 has a 15m² (161ft²) cockpit and an ‘open’ beam of 6m (20ft) wide. Then there’s a cabin forward and centre console helm-position and personal watercraft dock at the stern.
Standard propulsion package includes twin 370hp Yanmar diesels ‒ installed offset race-boat style to get the engines' weight closer to the centreline and lower the centre of gravity ‒ plus Arneson drives. The ultra-efficient hull form was developed by accomplished offshore powerboat designer Mark Wilson.
Her hull and deck were laminated using the SCRIMP vacuum-infusion process; it’s a carbon/vinylester hybrid.
The company is owned and driven by ex-Pershing founder and CEO Tilli Antonelli, who left the Ferretti Group about a year ago. Indeed the Wider factory is actually the old 1990 to ‘04 Pershing site in Castelvecchio di Monteporzio (PU), which is the Marche region.
If you would like to hear Tilli Antonelli explain aspects of the project, check out the Wider Yachts video-interview in Yachtbuilder International No4.
