She’s a 102ft steel-hulled explorer yacht.

JUNE 2011

Tacoma, Washington-based Citadel Yachts has launched its latest build, the 31m (102ft) steel-hulled explorer yacht MY Polar Bear. She will handover imminently to her experienced US-based owner.
Pushed along by twin 685hp Caterpillar C-18Bs, she has a range in excess of 5,000 nautical miles. Note the bulbous bow, active quad-fin stabilizers,
bow and stern thrusters and fully protected propellers and rudders. Her massive 8.5m (28ft) beam offers over 279m² (3,000ft²) of interior living space, with the engine room and lazarette providing an additional 67m² (720ft²). This gives the owner the large living spaces normally found on vessels 9m² (30ft) or so longer, but
with the added benefit of half the crew.
Lower deck accommodations provide fully self-sufficient crew quarters forward with a separate stairway leading up to the starboard companionway. Guest accommodations include two VIP staterooms with king-sized berths and two additional guest staterooms, all with en suites. The full-beam master suite is accessed via a private companionway located forward on the main deck, and includes a 52in flat-screen TV with entertainment centre, king-size
bed, and his-and-hers private baths with a large adjoining steam shower.
The interior is mostly satin-varnished American cherry.
As for tenders, she carries a 7.3m (24ft) sportsfisher and two good-size RIBs.
MY Polar Bear will spend her first season in Alaska, so will be living up to her explorer credentials from the outset.
