Wally’s latest super-sailer has an LOA of 50.5m and a stunning Bugatti-blue paint job.

MAY 2012

Wally Europe has just launched Better Place, which is claimed to be the world’s largest all-carbon sailing yacht. She was slipped into the water at ISA in Ancona at the beginning of May.
This stunning Bugatti-blue super-sailer has an LOA of 50.5m (166ft), a lift-keel to vary her draught from 4.5-6.5m (15-21ft) and a displacement of 250 tonnes, 88 tonnes of which is ballast. Moreover, she boasts a diesel-electric propulsion and onboard power system – three generators provide up to 705kW of flexible power.
The overall design was worked up by Bill Tripp in association the yard’s in-house team. In all 400m² of outside and 300m² of inside space is available. The deckhouse contributes 86m² of that total. The interior scheme was conceived by Wetzels Brown.
This one meets RINA Green Star requirements, the first sailboat to do so.
Final delivery is scheduled for late June ’12.
