Alubat’s all-new Cigale 16...

Design

Drawn by Marc Lombard, this French bluewater cruiser is not only going to look good; she’s going to be fast.

AUGUST 2007

Despite the all-aluminium construction, she’s got very elegant lines and a relative clear deck layout thanks to plenty of rounded profiles, flush hatches, halyards running under the deck, and recessed plexiglass windows.
She’s to be available with single or twin wheels and the cockpit is nice and deep, which boosts comfort and security.
Her light-displacement hull will also deliver, whether driving upwind or surfing downwind in the trade winds. An upper chine provides increased stability, so a more powerful rig has been possible, and she’s got an optimal waterline length and reduced wet surface area. She will have twin rudders and a fin keel.
Down below, the standard veneer choice is a light oak and the scheme contemporary.
Faithful to Cigale traditions, the new Cigale 16 will provide a magnificent aft saloon. The galley and chart table are located in the middle of the boat.
As for accommodation, there’s the option of three or four cabin layouts.
The first Cigale 16 should launch soon.
The Alubat yard is located in Le Château d’Olonne, France. Its range includes eight models – the Ovni 365, Ovni 395, Ovni 445, Ovni 495, Cigale 14, Cigale 16, Cigale 18 and Alubat 58. The Ovni models have lift keels and the Cigales are the performance cruisers. The 58 is intended as the ultimate short-handed bluewater cruiser.
Alubat has been building aluminium boats since its creation back in ’73.
