Schickler Tagliapietra’s Cutter 62...

This preliminary design was commissioned from Doug Schickler and Davide Tagliapietra's Dutch-Italian studio by an experienced European couple that want a retro-modern deep-ocean cruiser. Should the project be given the 'green light', the proposed builder is likely to be Ravenna, Italy-based Soleri Composites - AKA Cantiere Nautico Soleri.

Visually the shape of the hull takes its influence from classic pilot cutters of old. On deck the overall styling is minimalist, rather akin to a scaled up Wally Nano. Note the pronounced counter and the fact that there’s enough space beneath the aft deck for a good size tender, which would be launched by the Park Avenue boom. The rigging and sail plan are equally modern. She has swept-back spreaders, so there’s no need for a backstay or runners, and large-roach mainsail. A bowsprit carries the tack point of the headsails far forward; powered roller-furlers for the headsails are a must for this sail plan.
The idea is for the main halyard to be on a small captive winch and Magic trim rams to handle main and jib sheets.
The design also includes a moderate-stroke lift keel.
Lamination of the hull and deck is proposed with E-glass/Corecell/epoxy, although various Aramid fabrics will also used below the waterline. Up forward there is a pair of collision bulkheads and another aft, just in front of the twin wheels. Carbonfibre is used in all frames and on the keel box to deal with the loads.
The interior concept is a relatively open, with an owners’ suite forward and two guest cabins aft. The main salon is amidships in conventional fashion. The keel box is integrated into the interior layout, with a passage between the trunk and the owners head and shower and the galley on the opposite side of the boat.
The crew space is forward and includes a separate head.
