Icon’s new 50m platform...

A 54.5m with Hot Lab-drawn version will be one of several concepts on view at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show.

Following on from its first 60m (197-213ft) technical platform — two 62m projects of which have delivered to date — Dutch superyacht builder Icon Yachts of Harlingen has developed a 50m (164-180ft) steel/aluminium platform with a max beam of 9.45m (31ft). The hull form has already been model-tested by Marin and various design studios have come up with styling concepts for it. Take this five-deck 54.5m (179ft) 710GT translation, which was worked up by Icon’s in-house naval architect Jouke van de Baan and Italian studio Hot Lab of Milan. And the latter has worked up several GA proposals to go with it.
She’s a MCA LY2 vessel that would be capable of 15 knots and a range of 4,000nm.
