The Wally Otto...

Design

The world’s largest one-design racer.

SEPTEMBER 2011

Wally’s new Otto is a state-of-the-art Judel/Vrolijk-designed 80ft (24m) one-design racing yacht. The idea is to establish a fleet of what will be the world’s biggest one-design. Beyond startling performance and the ability to convert quickly to comfortable day-cruiser, this design should make for more economical campaigns, owing to crew and sail wardrobe limits, and consequently provide better residual values as there is the potential for a full-cruiser existence beyond the racing life.
Certainly the Otto delivers a unique observation area aft for guests not actively involved in driving the boat and down below the essential comforts of salon, galley and three guest cabins.
“Otto is a new concept, a pure racing yacht that will allow owners to compete at the very highest level alongside the Americas Cup and Olympic-standard sailors that already compete in the Wally Class,” says Wally founder and president, Luca Bassani Antivari. “This flexible design dispenses with the ownership challenges normally associated with a traditional ‘pure’ racing yacht.”
