The Wider 150...

This diesel-electric concept is full of surprises; she was unveiled at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show. Her beach club looks fantastic.

Castelvecchio di Monte Porzio, Italy-based WiderYachts, the company founded last year by ex-Pershing boss and Ferretti Group director Tilli Antonelli, has come up with a 48m (150ft) all-composite motoryacht concept. Designed by Fulvio di Simone, the longstanding Pershing designer, she is proposed with a bulbous bow and diesel-electric propulsion package, one whose semi-planing hull form is capable of delivering a 20-knot-plus top speed, but when slowed right down to 11 knots her range will stretch to 7,100nm, more than enough for trans-ocean cruising, and extraordinarily low consumption for a yacht of this size.
Under batteries alone, she should cruise for eight hours at around seven knots and that’s with all the usual hotel loads in play.
The design also has room for the new Wider 33 tender, that will be housed in a transom garage that can flood for launching and recovery.
Camper and Nicholsons International and Wider Yachts are co-promoting the Wider 150.
This year saw the launch of the first Wider 42, six of which have been completed thus far. The first public showing was at the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes '11; there was one on display just outside the show and one afloat inside.
