Ed Dubois’s team secures design contract for 100m sloop...

Assuming the project goes the distance, she is destined to be the world’s biggest sailing yacht by quite a margin. The design process will last 30 months and construction should commence in mid-2013, which would suggest a ’16 launch at the earliest.

First acknowledged as a project prior to this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, this 100m (328ft) centreboard sloop is for a repeat client for British designer Ed Dubois and his studio. The owner has world-cruising ambitions, so wants an explorer specification. Not only will she have a flybrige, but also a hardtop atop it.
Her interior designer will be conceived by Josep Juanpere Miret of GCA Arquitectes in Barcelona, Spain.
She will have a draught of 12.8m (42ft) and accommodation for up to 20 crew in single cabins. Her carbon mast will measure around 125m (410ft).
Not surprisingly several yards have already lodged interests to tender for the build contract.
The owner’s representative and project manager will be Klaus Allebrodt.
