The Barracuda 170...

Design

She is the latest design study by Iñigo Toledo’s Barracuda Yacht Design studio.

FEBRUARY 2012

Commissioned by a European client, this 52m (170ft) motor-sailer is the latest design study by Madrid, Spain-based Barracuda Yacht Design. Despite first impressions of a relatively slow and heavy cruiser, we’re told she would be fast, thanks to a particularly efficient hull form, transferable water-ballast and retractable dagger-board ‒ indeed upwind speeds in excess of 14 knots from 20 knots of breeze have been suggested and all with no more than 8° of heel.
Accommodating up to 12 guests and 12 crew, her general arrangement is far from typical. For instance, the owner’s suite is amidships on the main deck ‒ just beneath the vang ‒ and sports balconies on either side. Then there is a VIP suite aft with access to a large ‘terrace on the sea’ swim platform.
