Another '09-launch Wally 100...

Industry News

The latest 30.5m (100ft) 'Y3K' is a refinement of her owner’s previous same-length, same-name flush-deck terrace-on-the-sea Wally. She was built at the WallyEurope yard in Fano, Italy, and craned into the water at the beginning of July at the ISA Shipyard in Ancona.

JULY 2009

While still required for a family cruising role, this latest German Frers-drawn flyer should be blisteringly fast on the race course. She has a simply massive super-high-modulus-carbon mast, carbon boom and PBO rigging, as well as a 3m (9ft 10in) carbon bowsprit to increase her downwind sail area. Beneath the waterline of what is a high-volume hull by any definition, she’s got the look appendage-wise of an America’s Cupper — the points on her bulb look sharp enough to prick fingers and there’s a trim-tab on the keel! Displacing just 57 tonnes, she’s a very light boat for what is still very much the superyacht. The hull was laminated with prepreg carbon.
She will make her first public appearance at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, which this year takes place over September 6-12.

The fourth Wally sailing yacht to deliver this year will be the Wally 80.6 Bagheera. She is scheduled to launch in late Serptember.
