Dick Mulder celebrates...

Industry News

It’s been 25 years since he took the helm of the family yard in Voorschoten, which was established back in 1938 by his father Dirk Mulder Snr. It's certainly been a successful quarter-century tenure thus far...

SEPTEMBER 2009

During the past 70 years or so the yard has grown from strength to strength. Initially the yard built small wooden sailboats, but as the ‘40s and ‘50s progressed the sailboats got larger and steel motoryachts joined the fleet.
Those early motoryachts were the forerunners of the successful ‘Favorite’ cruiser series, which was introduced in the late ‘50s and continued to be built through until the ‘80s.
Soon after taking over the helm in 1984, Dick Mulder oversaw the introduction of two new types – the ‘Favorite Superior’ and the ‘Futura’.
But it was during the ‘90s that the yard made its most significant move, the establishment of the operation as custom builder.
Today, the Mulder Shipyard delivers substantial yachts to an international clientele. Beyond the yachts delivered to Dutch clients, Mulders have gone everywhere from Italy and Spain to Russia, Egypt and New Zealand.
Mulder Shipyard is renowned for the superb quality of its semi- and fully customised displacement and planing yachts.
The yard recently opened a new carpentry department and purchased land for a new 6,000 square-metre (64,550 square-feet) yard.

Earlier this year the yard launched the exquisitely retro Eleonora.
