JUNE 2010

Composite rigging specialist Future Fibres and composite structures specialist Persico have formed a new spar building operation to serve superyacht and grand prix raceboat sectors. It will be known as Future Spars and will be based next door to Future Fibres facility in of Valencia, Spain.
Based in Bergamo, Italy, Persico brings a wealth of experience to the mix, despite the fact that it hasn’t done much marine industry work thus far; most of its 40-year experience with composites has been spent supplying the automotive and aerospace sectors. However, it did build two ‘Version 5’ yachts for the IAC syndicate Luna Rossa and the 32nd America’s Cup, which of course was held off Valencia in ‘07.
A new 50m (164ft) autoclave has already been delivered to the Future Spars’ premises. Future Spars should produce its first spar for a leading grand prix race team during the summer.
