Kjell Vesto to join Oyster Marine...

People

The highly experienced yachtbuilder will become on October 1 the export award winning UK company’s new operations director, which means he will take charge of design, engineering and project management functions. Formerly he spent 30-plus years in senior roles with Oyster competitor Nautor’s Swan in his native Finland building yachts from as small as 11m (36ft) up to 40m (131ft).

JULY 2009

He was appointed by Oyster Marine Group CEO David Tydeman to replace longstanding joint managing director Alan Brook, who will soon step back to a non-executive role once he has completed an orderly hand over of his present responsibilities to Vesto.
Richard Matthews sold his majority share in Oyster Marine for something in the region of £60 million in early ’09 to private-equity fund Balmoral Capital, which incidentally also owns Italian motoryacht builder Canados. Soon to take delivery of a new Oyster 56 himself, Alan Brook helped Matthews build up the business over many years and was until recently a minority shareholder.
Headquartered at Fox’s Marina in Ipswich, Suffolk, Oyster Marine builds Oyster-branded high-end sailing cruisers from 17-38m (56-125ft), as well as the odd 12m (40ft) motorboat model, at various sites, some part of the group in the UK, and other long-term contract builders in the UK, New Zealand and Turkey.
