OBITUARY: Alex Chueh...


The founder of Ocean Alexander has died after a long illness at the age of 77.

Ocean Alexander has announced the death of Alex Chueh, founder of the company. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 3 after a long illness.
Born on October 19, ‘33, in Fujian, China, Chueh’s career began at the Taiwan Military Academy; he was in the army until ‘70.
He started Ocean Alexander in ‘78. The Ocean Alexander 50 Mark I was its first model and within five years it launched Nighthawk, a 70ft motoryacht that ranked in ’85 among the largest yachts ever to have been built in Asia.
Alex Chueh will be remembered as one of the pioneers of the Asian yacht industry that successfully establishing his brand in North America. During his lifetime, over 1,500 Ocean Alexanders were delivered and over 40 new models developed.
With a motoryacht portfolio spanning 16-47m (54-155ft), Ocean Alexander lives on under the stewardship of his son, John Chueh.
The private funeral will take place in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
