A 50-boat-a-year target; 70-strong workforce; serious export driveā€¦ October 2007

Intermare is upping its profile these days. The 40-year-old motorboat builder, which is based in Montescudaio, close to Pisa Airport, just recently started to build an international presence, having concentrated on the Italian market alone. UK-based Alf Agius and his Privilege Yacht operation, which has already done similar jobs with yards such as Sealine and Aicon, is spearheading the export drive.

Intermare employs around 70 people and handles most disciplines in house...

The Intermare range spans 9-15m (30-50ft) presently. The model designations are 30, 37, 39, 43 and new 50, plus there is a new Intermare 60 flagship under development, the first of which is scheduled to complete this year. All are flybridge designs since the old pêche promenade-style Intermare was recently dropped.
At the moment the best-sellers are the six-year-old 37 and four-year-old 43.
Owned and managed buy brothers Fabrizio and Fabio Giusti, whose retired father Odivio started the yard, Intermare employs around 70 people and handles most disciplines in house. It is currently aiming to delivering around 20-25 boats a year, but is gearing up to do 50.
“We expect to do well with the range internationally,” says Alf Agius. “The designs are good, they’re well-built and prices are attractive… You will see us pushing these hard in the years ahead.”
