Yard Updates

Custom Bill Tripp 75 performance sailing yacht; and semi-custom the MD51 Power project. January 2008

JANUARY 2008

The 20-year-old Maxi Dolphin yard is best known for its semi-custom and custom composite performance sailing cruisers. It has built all sorts over the years, the biggest of which was the 36m 9118ft) Viriella that launched in 2001. It invariably uses prepregs.
Current work in progress includes a custom sailing yacht project, a 23m (75ft) Bill Tripp 75. She is scheduled to deliver this autumn.
Then its fifth MD65 performance sloop is in hand. The fourth of those Luca Brenta-designed beauties delivered in ’06 and this latest one delivers for April ‘09.
Plus the yard is building two of its MD33 day-cruiser/racer. The first delivers in April and is bound for Denmark. The second delivers later this year. The yard delivered two of them in ’07, one of which was on display at Boot Dusseldorf ’08.

'Employing around 30 people, Maxi Dolphin is based in Erbsuco...'

However, Maxi Dolphin is also busy with a semi-custom motor-launch project at the moment
Two of its Roberto Starkel-designed MD51 Power models delivered last year, one of which was made available for the builder to exhibit this January at Dusseldorf. Resplendent with a copper-metallic paint job, she delivers 38-knot half-load performance thanks to twin Volvo Penta IPS600 drives. Four more MD51s are in production. Of those two are very similar to boat number one and two have hardtops. Prices start at €980,000.
We can expect to see motor in the way of motorboats from Maxi Dolphin. The owner of the first MD51 is said to be interested in a similar concept MD62 Power.
Employing around 30 people, Maxi Dolphin is based in Erbsuco, which is between Bergamo and Brescia, just south of Lago d’Iseo and Sarnico, the Franciacorta wine region. It is owned by entrepreneur Vittorio Moretti.
