Yard Updates

Fast, modern sailing cruisers with Italian flareā€¦

JANUARY 2008

Based in Cesana, near Rimini, and employing just 20 people, Sly Yachts is a relative new concern. Driven by brothers Enrico and Alessandro Franchini, it began just three years ago, but has already acquired the necessary momentum. Its specialist is high-end performance sailing cruisers with carbon/glass/epoxy hulls and some very modern styling inside and out by the young Marco Lostuzzi.

'Sly Yachts expects to deliver 16 boats during its ‘07/08 year and is forecasting 22-plus for ‘08/09...'

There are currently five Sly models in the portfolio based on four hulls, but a couple more additions are already in hand. Starting from the bottom, there is the €315,000 Sly 42, which was introduced in late ’06 and earned title as European Yacht of the Year at the ’08 Boot Dusseldorf. Five of them have delivered to date. Then there is the Sly 42 Fun, which uses the same hull, but is really a day-sailer configuration, complete with an open deck protected by an electric bimini. Three of those have been delivered to date. Then there is the Sly 47, which was the model the company started with back in late ’05. Indeed the Franchini brothers built the first 47 for themselves and in doing so realized they had the makings of a new business. Five of those 47s have delivered thus far. And then there is the 18-month-old Sly 53, three of which has delivered to date. And topping off the range is the new flagship Sly 61, the first of which delivers this summer.
Beyond that there is the new one-design Sly 38 under development. The first of those should splash early next year.
