YARD UPDATE '09: Tamsen Yachts...

Yard Updates

The operation's second launch to date, the composite 41m (133ft) beauty 'taTii' with her metallic-oyster hull, was shown for the first time at Cannes 2009. She's for sale. The asking price is €16.5 million.

SEPTEMBER 2009

German new-build company Tamsen Yachts belongs to Julia and Jandrik Tamsen, who was formerly one of Europe's most prosperous luxury car dealers. He sold the Hamburg/Bremen-based business five years ago and founded Tamsen Yachts in the same area around a year later. The operation's first boat, the 40m (130ft) charter motoryacht Namaste, was launched in '07/08 and its second is the virtually identical 41m (133ft) taTii, which launched in July '09. Both make use of the same hull, only the latter has more of a bathing platform, which is what accounts for the extra metre.
Although they may look at first glance like flybridge boats, they're not. They are essentially tridecks with hardtops. The fact that they have got no flies really work in their favour. Because there's nothing above, their sky-lounges benefit hugely from a massive opening sunroofs.
Particularly sweet features include the way the aft doors to both main saloons and sky-lounges disappear completely into the bulkheads, which means inside and outside areas on main and upper decks open up to create super integrated entertainment areas. The sky-lounge doors and opening roof sections combine to deliver really fabulous open-plan spaces.
The extra-large master suite aboard taTii is quite something. It’s virtually a self-contained apartment, not only providing the essentials of king-size bed, three walk-in wardrobes and a grand ‘wellness’ bathroom with superb views, but also a lounging area, office and private bar.
Other design features include a garden deck forward with bimini protection and spa-pool and side balconies, which are created by folding down and out sections of the bulwarks either side. Thosefeatures are more about delivering uninterupted views from sections of full-height side glazing in the main saloon than somewhere pleasant to stand and appreciate the view.
The interior of taTii is best described as subtly modern. The creative work was all down to Julia Tamsen, who has obvious interior design talent. The colour palette she chose for taTii ranges from fresh whites to calming taupes and warm greys to rich-dark chocolate; and textures include a variety of cashmeres and leathers.
The garage is big enough for a 6.20m (20ft 4in) tender.
She was launched on July 1 from the contract builder TSMM's facility in the Free Trade Zone of Turkish southern city Antalya. It's the old Notika yard managed by Orhan Çelikkol. Work in progress there for Tamsen includes two more 41m (133ft) sisters to taTii. There's a flybridge version that delivers for late 2010; she's also available at an asking price of €16.8 million. And then there is another available trideck like taTii on the schedules for a late 2011 delivery.
The Tamsen's will be using taTii as their own yacht until she's sold; they say they may well offer her for charter like sister Namaste.
