She’s the 55m ‘Harbour Island’; when delivered in a few weeks time she will be the ninth largest yacht to have been built in the United States in the past 50 years.

Newcastle Shipyards launched its largest new-build to date on August 11, MY Harbour Island. Hull No1 of the new 54.9m (180ft) Newcastle 5500 Series, she will spend a few weeks in St Augustine for dock tests and sea trials before heading south to the Rybovich Super Yacht Marina and Refit centre and then to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October.
The Newcastle 5500 is a six-stateroom motoryacht featuring two master suites – one on the main deck and the other on the skylounge deck forward – and a VIP suite below. Additional amenities include an infinity pool on the split-level sundeck, a raised ‘veranda’ on the main aft-deck and expansive built-in seating area aft of the alfresco dining area on the skylounge aft-deck.
MY Harbour Island is built to ABS Maltese Cross A1 YS, AMS, is MCA compliant and has a trans-Pacific range.
At 910GT, the Newcastle 5500 is the largest volume 55m (180ft) motoryacht on the market today, according to Kevin Keith, owner of Newcastle Shipyards. Murray and Associates handled the exterior styling and engineering of the 5500 Series and Harbour Island’s interior design was the responsibility of Claudette Bonville Associates.
IYC is the worldwide Central Agent for MY Harbour Island and offers her for charter in the Caribbean for the winter season and the Mediterranean for summer ‘12.
Located in Palm Coast and Palatka, Florida, USA, the Newcastle Shipyards formed in 1999. Newcastle currently has two ice-class expedition yachts, a 129-footer (39.3m) and a 177-footer (53.9m), and a 149ft (45.4m) expedition yacht under construction. Capacity is around 61m (200ft).
