Jongert’s 500LE Hybrid...

Yard Updates

The design will be unveiled at Monaco ’11 and the first yacht is sold.

Dutch yard Jongert will unveil its 500LE design at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. An order has already been received for the first one of what is being promoted as a ‘limited edition’ model – hence the ‘LE’ designation.
Jongert began designing the LE500 at the end of 2010 in partnership with Azure Naval Architects and Guido de Groot Design. A full-displacement steel/aluminium design, she has a LOA of 50m (164ft) and in terms of tonnage comes in just under 500GT.
Unusually she is offered with a hybrid propulsion system – a diesel-electric set-up supported by lithium-ion batteries – and we understand the first boat will get that system.
Unique features of this design are full wheelchair accessibility and a new telescopic-anchoring system. This latter feature allows the yacht to be moored quickly and easily in any spot in depths of up to 15 m (50ft). The anchor system prevents the yacht from drifting or turning and makes it possible for guests to go for a quick dip in any nice spot and in complete safety as regards swimming in close proximity to the boat, says yard managing director Eel Kant.
